Quick Activity Snapshot

A DIY perfume blending bar is a fun and creative activity for princess parties, fairy parties, or kids spa parties. Kids love mixing gentle scents and creating their own signature perfume to take home.

Perfume Bar Setup Ideas

Your perfume bar can be as simple or fancy as you like. Arrange small bottles of pre-diluted scents on a tray or cake stand so kids can easily see their options. Set out empty perfume bottles, droppers, and small funnels so they can mix their own custom scent.

For a magical look, place the bottles on gold trays or mirrors, and add small bowls of dried flowers, petals, or sparkly decorations. Kids love feeling like real perfumers while they experiment with different scent combinations.

Everything below is what you'll need to set up a simple perfume blending station. I've linked the exact items that work well for kids' parties.

Tip: Pre-dilute your essential oils with carrier oil before the party so kids can safely mix scents.

Preparing the Scents (Do This Before the Party)

0.5% Dilution (under age 5/sensitive kids)

  • 3 drops essential oil per 1oz (30ml) carrier oil

  • 6 drops essential oil per 2oz (60ml) carrier oil

1% Dilution (best for 5-12)

  • 6 drops essential oil per 1oz (30ml) carrier oil

  • 12 drops essential oil per 2 oz (60ml) carrier oil

To dilute oils:

  1. Add the correct number of essential oil drops to a 1 oz or 2 oz amber glass dropper bottle (use 2 oz for bigger parties or to account for kid spills)

  2. Fill the rest of the bottle with fractionated coconut oil using pipette or funnel.

  3. Leave a little space at the top for mixing.

  4. Close the bottle and shake well.

  5. Label the bottle with the scent name.

Tip: Always test a small amount on your own skin first to be sure the scent is gentle.

Kid-Friendly Essential Oil Dilution Guide

------------------------------------

Before kids start mixing scents, prepare your essential oils using this kid-safe dilution guide.

Prepare the Perfume Base

For younger kids, or quicker party, it helps to prepare the perfume base ahead of time.

Mix:

50% distilled water

50% alcohol-free witch hazel

For a 1 oz roller bottle or spritzer, that equals:

  • 15 ml distilled water

  • 15 ml witch haze

You can pre-fill the bottles before the party, or let older kids mix their own base during activity.

How Kids Make Their Perfume

Each guest will create their own 1oz (30mL) customer perfume to take home.

Before the party, fill the 1oz rollers or spray bottles with:

  • 15mL distilled water

  • 15mL witch hazel

For older children you may choose to let them fill their own rollers or spray bottles with the water/witch hazel.

Kids choose 2-3 scent oils and add 10-15 drops to their bottle

Encourage them to start with fewer drops and more if they want a stronger scent.

Close the bottle and gently shake to blend the scents.

Kids can give their perfume a fun name and decorate the bottle with ribbon, stickers or charms.

Each guest leaves with a one-of-a-kind perfume they created themselves.

Most perfumes are created by blending three types of scents called top notes, middle notes, and base notes. Each type of scent plays a different role in how the perfume smells. Here's a quick guide to make you look like an expert, and it uses the scents that are in my recommended supply list. Use this guide when they make their own scents.

Middle Notes are the main scent of the perfume and help balance the fragrance.

Add 4-6 drops of a middle note.

Examples:

  • Lavender

  • Coconut

  • Frankincense (use just small amount)

Base Notes are deeper scents that last the longest and help anchor the perfume.

Add 2-3 drops of a base note

Examples:

  • Vanilla

  • Coconut

Fun Idea: Name Your Perfume

Let kids name their perfume before decorating their bottle. Provide blank labels or small name cards so they can create their own scent brand.

Try fun perfume names like:

  • Princess Petal

  • Royal Garden

  • Moonlight Magic

  • Citrus Sparkle

  • Royal Bloom
