Broken Crown Relay

The Broken Crown Quest is a fun princess-themed relay race where kids run back and forth to match and rebuild magical crowns. In this energetic birthday party game, children race to find the correct crown halves and restore the royal tiaras on a poster board, combining movement, memory, and teamwork. Perfect for princess parties, fairy birthday celebrations, and kids' party games that keep everyone active and engaged.

What You'll Need

Printable crown or tiara images (cut each crown in half) Free Download
• Poster boards or large paper to put half the crowns
• Tape
• Open play space (yard or large room)

Optional extras:

• Glitter crowns or sparkly designs
• Team name signs (Fairy Team, Princess Team, Royal Knights)
• Cones or markers for running lanes

How to Play

  1. Start the Relay (for younger kids)
    The first child from each team grabs a just 1 crown half and runs to find it's match on the board, once its found, tape it to the board and run back.

  2. Next Player Goes

    The next teammate grabs a crown half and runs to the board to tape it to its match.

  3. Continue the Quest
    Teams take turns racing until all the crowns have been restored.

    CHALLENGE: (for older kids)

    Have the kids have to put the crowns in order that they are on the board. This requires them to first run to the board, look at crown #1, remember the details of the crown, run back to the pile of crown, find that match and run back to tape it up.

Set up

  • Prepare the Crowns
    Print several crown or tiara designs and cut each one in half. Free printables for you here.

  • Make the Board
    Tape one half of each crown onto 2 poster boards( and number them. (for older kid option) and place the board across the room or yard

  • Place the Loose Pieces
    Put the matching crown halves in a pile at the starting line of relay.

  • Divide the Teams
    Split children into two or more teams (need more poster boards if more than 2 teams) and have them stand behind their starting line.

  • Optional for younger kids: Explain the Story
    Tell the children that a burst of mischievous fairy magic has broken the royal crowns, and their mission is to restore them.
