Supplies You'll Need
Set Up the Break Your Own Geode Station
Set up a safe cracking area outside or on a sturdy surface.
Give each child one geode and explain that there may be crystals hidden inside.
Choose a safety method:

Use a hammer or rock tool to carefully tap the geode until it cracks open.
Lets kids inspect the crystals inside with a magnifying glass
Rinse or brush off the pieces if they are dusty.
Place each child's geode pieces in a labeled bag so they can take home.
Safety Tip: An adult should handle or closely supervise the cracking part.
Place the geode inside an old sock, then gently hit the rock through the sock so broken pieces stay safely enclosed.
