What You'll Need
Clear plastic or glass jars with lids
Play sand, craft sand, or small pebbles
Green moss, fake moss, or shredded green paper
Mini plastic dinosaurs
Mini trees, leaves, rocks, or small plants
Small scoops or spoons
Bowls or trays for each supply
Tablecloth or kraft paper to protect the table
Optional: name labels, stickers, or markers for decorating the jars
Long ago, tiny dinosaurs roamed through sandy valleys, mossy forests, and hidden jungle paths. Now each child gets to create a mini dinosaur habitat of their own, complete with trees, rocks, and a little dinosaur. When the jar is finished, it becomes a tiny prehistoric world they can take home from the party.
How to Set Up the Station
Cover the craft table with a tablecloth, kraft paper, or newspaper to make cleanup easier.
Place the empty jars in a row so each child can grab one when it is their turn.
Pour the sand, rocks, moss, mini trees, and dinosaurs into separate bowls or trays. Keep small scoops nearby so kids can easily add materials to their jars.
Set up the table in the order kids will use the supplies: jars first, sand or rocks next, moss and greenery after that, then dinosaurs and decorations at the end.
Add a simple sign that says “Make Your Own Dino Terrarium” so kids know where to go.
Let each child choose one jar, add a layer of sand or pebbles, tuck in moss or greenery, and place a mini dinosaur inside.
Once the terrarium is finished, help younger kids close the lid and add their name to the bottom or lid.
